A YouTube handle is your unique identifier that starts with @ (for example, @YourChannelName). Introduced in 2022, handles replaced the old custom URL system. Your handle appears in your channel URL (youtube.com/@YourHandle), in comments, in Shorts, and anywhere your channel is mentioned. Unlike display names, handles must be unique across all of YouTube.
Your channel name (display name) is what viewers see at the top of your channel page — it does not have to be unique. Multiple channels can share the same display name. Your handle, however, is your unique @username that no other channel can use. When checking availability, you want to verify that the handle is free, since the display name can always be set to whatever you prefer.
YouTube handles must be between 3 and 30 characters, can only contain letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens, and periods, and must be unique. Handles are case-insensitive (@MyChannel and @mychannel are treated the same). You cannot use handles that impersonate others, contain slurs, or violate YouTube community guidelines.
Keep it short and memorable. Match it across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X) for brand consistency. Avoid numbers or special characters unless they are part of your brand. Check availability on multiple platforms before committing. Consider how the handle looks in a URL and how easy it is to spell when spoken aloud.
Enter multiple channel names separated by commas or new lines. No limit on the number of checks.
