Our unlocker uses PDF.js and WebAssembly to decrypt and remove PDF security locally in your browser. The tool decrypts PDF content streams using standard decryption algorithms (RC4, AES) after password verification, then reconstructs the PDF without encryption dictionaries and security handlers. It removes both user passwords (required to open) and owner passwords (restricting editing/printing/copying). All processing happens client-side—no server uploads or external API calls. The decrypted PDF maintains identical content, formatting, fonts, images, bookmarks, and metadata as the original. Legal note: Only use this tool with PDFs you have legal rights to unlock.
For password-protected PDFs requiring a password to open: you must know the password to unlock. For restriction-only PDFs (open without password but can't edit/print), unlocking works without password. To find if your PDF requires a password: try opening in PDF reader—if it asks for password, you need it to unlock. Consider re-encrypting unlocked PDFs with updated passwords if security is still needed.
